Professional Hopes and Goals
One hope that you have when you
think about working with children and families who come from diverse
backgrounds:
My hope is that I am able to take
the knowledge and insight gained from these studies, continue to learn, and
apply it to environments and relationships with the children and families in my
care. I hope to help them feel valued,
respected, and empowered by their diversity and for the unique qualities.
One goal you would like to set for
the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social
justice:
My goal for the early childhood
field is that as a community we learn to set individual differences and needs
aside and collaborate together to bring about the level of change needed within
for individuals, communities, and society to work together. What can be achieved together is limited only
by our willingness. We owe it to our
children, families, and ourselves to develop our community and society into
environments worthy of the valuable resources found in the diversity within it.
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank each of my classmates for the insight, knowledge, and personal experiences
they have shared over the last eight weeks.
Each of us has value and a contribution to make, as do our children and
families. Taking the time and effort to
widen our views and knowledge base to benefit our children, families, the
profession and our personal growth is to be commended. I have enjoyed the discussions and blog
entries that have been shared and will miss those who are not in the upcoming
classes. I wish each of you the best and
success both personally and professionally.

Cindy,
ReplyDeleteYou have uttered such a powerful call for collaboration. We certainly would achieve more working together. It is still so evident the lack of a unified vision in some systems that delay progress and effective change. Respecting each others diversity has to be priority.
Vanessa
Hi Vanessa, Thank you for your comments. It is a definite challenge, but one so worth the effort. The potential difference we can make in the lives of children and families far outweigh the cost. The value of diversity has to be realized by all of us before we can make the level of change needed. A big portion of my hope lies within the openness of children. They are the future and what we need to focus on.

ReplyDeleteIt is often a difficult next step to put learning and self reflection into action. Being aware and having a passion is a great jump start to activating those hopes.
I have enjoyed reading your thoughts and insights over the past few weeks. Best of luck in your studies.
